One of my favorite parts of their wedding day was taking Katie and Jack outside for portraits along the beach. Rather than turning their portrait session into a long photo shoot, I wanted to give them time to enjoy the moment together while incorporating the ocean, coastline, and unmistakable South Florida atmosphere into their photographs.

Many of Katie’s bridesmaids had traveled from out of state, so she surprised them with custom beach bags—an especially fitting gift for a wedding at The Boca Raton. Along with the other personalized items waiting in the room, these details made their guests feel welcomed while tying everything back to the beachfront setting.
As a wedding photographer, I always make time to photograph details like these before the day becomes busy. Invitations, gifts and other personal touches may seem small compared with the ceremony or reception, but they’re often items the couple spent considerable time selecting. Photographing them helps preserve another part of the story that might otherwise be forgotten.

Some of my favorite wedding photographs happen before the ceremony, when everyone is simply enjoying being together. Katie’s bridal suite was filled with laughter as she and her bridesmaids relaxed, shared a champagne toast, and enjoyed some time together before getting dressed.
I like to photograph this part of the day with a mix of lightly directed portraits and candid wedding photography. I’ll step in when a little direction will create a stronger photograph, but I also know when to let things unfold naturally. Those unscripted interactions often become some of the most meaningful images from the wedding.
Having a spacious bridal suite at The Boca Raton gave everyone room to enjoy the morning while also providing plenty of opportunities for photographs. Starting photography early meant there was no need to rush these moments before moving into the next part of the wedding day.

Once Katie was completely dressed, I set aside a few minutes to create her bridal portraits. The beautiful window light in her suite at The Boca Raton was perfect for highlighting the clean lines of her gown, the softness of her veil, and her white lily bouquet.
For the first portrait, I photographed Katie facing the light for a bright, flattering image that keeps the attention on her expression. I then changed the angle to show the back of her gown and the full length of her veil. Small changes in position and lighting can create very different photographs without taking the bride away from her wedding day for an extended period of time.
I always like to create a few polished bridal portraits in addition to the candid photographs from the getting-ready portion of the day. These are often some of the simplest photographs I make, but they can also become some of the most timeless images in the finished wedding collection.

A father seeing his daughter as a bride for the first time is one of those wedding-day moments that can’t be recreated. Katie’s first look with her dad was filled with exactly what I hope to capture—anticipation, emotion, laughter, and a big hug once he finally saw her.
For their first look, we stepped outside at The Boca Raton and used the ocean as the backdrop. The bright South Florida daylight and blue Atlantic created a completely different feeling from the softer bridal portraits we had just photographed inside.
I gave Katie and her father enough direction to put them in the right place and then let the moment unfold. Once her dad turned around, my job was simply to photograph their reactions without interrupting them.
These are the moments that make storytelling such an important part of wedding photography. The portraits and details matter, but so do the expressions and interactions that happen only once. Years from now, photographs like these can bring a couple and their family right back to how the wedding day actually felt.

Creative Wedding Ring Photography
Wedding rings are among the smallest details I photograph on a wedding day, but they also carry some of the greatest significance. Rather than simply documenting the rings, I like to look for interesting ways to photograph them that connect the image to the couple and their wedding.
For Katie and Jack, I incorporated details from their celebration at The Boca Raton Beach Club into the ring photographs. The Beach Club artwork immediately establishes a sense of place, while the personalized wedding detail featuring their initials and wedding date makes the images uniquely theirs.
Photographing small details like rings requires a different approach from photographing people. Lighting, reflections, background selection and depth of field all become important when working this close. Taking a few extra minutes to create something distinctive gives the couple photographs that are both a record of their rings and part of the visual story of their wedding day.

Getting Ready with the Groom
While Katie was finishing her preparations, it was also time to photograph Jack before the ceremony. Groom portraits don’t need to be complicated. A strong individual portrait combined with a few close-up details can tell this part of the wedding-day story naturally.
Jack wore a classic navy suit accented with a blue bow tie and a boutonniere that coordinated beautifully with the soft blue and white floral palette of the wedding. I also photographed the small in-between moments, like Jack making a final adjustment to his bow tie before heading to the ceremony.
Photographing both sides of the wedding preparations is important to me. While much of the morning naturally centers around the bride, the groom’s portraits and details are equally important when creating a complete visual story of the wedding day.

Taking the Boat to the First Look
Katie and Jack had made special plans for their first look. While Katie spent the morning getting ready at The Boca Raton Beach Club, Jack prepared across the Intracoastal Waterway at the main resort.
When it was time for the first look, Jack headed to the dock to take the boat across to the Beach Club, where Katie would be waiting for him. Before he boarded, I had a few minutes to photograph him at the waterfront with The Boca Raton in the background.
Using the resort’s different locations gave us an opportunity to incorporate more of the property into their wedding photography. The boat ride across the water also added a little anticipation to the story—Jack knew that when he reached the other side, he would finally get to see Katie.

I love moments like this because they’re part portrait and part documentary wedding photography. Katie didn’t need much direction—she was genuinely waiting for Jack. My job was to choose the angles that showed her beautifully while also incorporating the waterfront setting and telling the story of what was about to happen.
The movement of her veil, the white orchid bouquet, and the water surrounding the dock all helped create a distinctly South Florida feel. Within a few minutes, Jack would arrive and Katie and Jack would see each other for the first time on their wedding day.

A First Look Arrival by Boat
I’m always watching for expressions during a first look. Sometimes the reaction is emotional and dramatic; other times, the story is found in the experience itself. For Katie and Jack, their first look began with one of the more unique wedding-day arrivals I’ve photographed.
Jack traveled from the main resort across the Intracoastal Waterway aboard The Boca Raton’s distinctive Beach Club boat, while Katie waited for him at the dock. Once he arrived, we photographed the two of them together before moving on to their portraits around the Beach Club.
The boat, the water, and the setting made this first look uniquely theirs. It also gave us a series of photographs that captured more than just the moment they saw each other—they documented the experience of getting there.

When photographing a wedding on the water, I like to use the environment rather than simply treating it as a background. The changing light, wind, water, and movement can all become part of the photograph and create images that have a real sense of place.

After finishing our beach portraits, we took the boat back across the Intracoastal Waterway to continue photography at The Boca Raton’s main resort. This gave Katie and Jack an entirely different setting for their portraits and allowed us to incorporate more of the resort’s distinctive architecture into their wedding photographs.
The move was also a practical decision. The ocean breeze at the Beach Club was wonderful for creating movement in Katie’s veil during the couple’s beach portraits, but the more protected areas of the main resort were better suited for the family and wedding-party photographs we still needed to create.
Working together with the wedding planners, we adjusted our locations to take advantage of the conditions rather than fight them. That’s especially important at a waterfront wedding, where wind and weather can change throughout the day.
Before beginning the family photographs, I spent a little more time with Katie and Jack around the property. The covered walkway gave us beautiful symmetry and depth, while Katie’s veil created a softer, more intimate frame around the two of them.

Endless Locations for Wedding Photography at The Boca Raton
One of the things I love about photographing weddings at The Boca Raton is the incredible variety of locations available throughout the property. Within a relatively short period of time, it’s possible to create wedding photographs that look and feel completely different from one another.
For Katie and Jack, we moved from the natural waterfront setting of the Beach Club to the architecture and elegant interiors of the main resort. The portrait on the left was photographed inside the hotel bar, where the warm interior lighting created a polished, sophisticated look. For the photograph on the right, we stepped outside to the iconic fountain at the front of the hotel, one of the resort’s most recognizable locations for wedding portraits.
Having so many photographic options is particularly valuable on a wedding day because the best location can change depending on the time of day, weather, wind, lighting, and the couple’s schedule. Rather than relying on one or two predetermined spots, I can choose locations that work best for the conditions while still giving the couple a diverse collection of photographs.

The Boca Raton always seems to have a stylish way to get around. Katie and Jack stopped for a fun portrait with one of the resort’s signature pink Mokes while we explored the property for wedding photographs.

Not every wedding portrait needs to be serious or romantic. Katie and Jack shared a playful moment inside the bar at The Boca Raton, creating one of my favorite relaxed portraits from their time around the resort.
We couldn’t explore The Boca Raton without stopping at the croquet lawn. Katie and Jack took a quick break from traditional wedding portraits for a playful moment together on the resort grounds.
While everyone gathered for family and wedding-party portraits, Jack had a few minutes to relax in the lobby at The Boca Raton—one of those quiet in-between moments that helps tell the complete story of a wedding day.

Wedding Party and Family Portraits at The Boca Raton
With the ceremony getting closer, it was time to bring everyone together for the family and wedding-party photographs. We chose a more protected area of the main resort, which gave us better control over the wind while still incorporating the beautiful surroundings of The Boca Raton.
I always make sure to capture the traditional group photographs that couples and their families expect, but I also like to create something a little different when time and the location allow. For this wedding-party portrait, photographing from above gave us a fun perspective and captured the personalities and energy of the entire group.
Not every wedding party is quite this playful, but when the personalities are there, I’m happy to run with it. Jack and his groomsmen brought plenty of laughs—and a few completely unexpected poses—to their wedding-party photos at The Boca Raton.

After our portraits at the main resort, we returned to The Boca Raton Beach Club for Katie and Jack’s ceremony. The outdoor setting was beautifully designed with lush white and soft blue florals, clear chairs, and tropical greenery that complemented the waterfront surroundings.
As guests began to arrive, live string musicians provided the music and helped set the atmosphere for the ceremony. I always photograph the ceremony site and its details before it fills with guests whenever the timeline allows. Couples put an incredible amount of thought into these elements, and photographing the space while it’s untouched preserves all of that work before the ceremony begins.

After the oceanfront ceremony, guests moved into an incredible tented reception just steps away at The Boca Raton Beach Club. I’ve photographed weddings throughout South Florida for many years, but this was one of the most unique tented reception spaces I’ve encountered.
The soaring tent, suspended lights, candlelit tables, lush white florals, and carefully designed place settings created an atmosphere that felt elegant without losing the relaxed feeling of being beside the ocean. Even the custom menus carried the design of The Boca Raton, tying the details of the reception back to the resort itself.
From a photography standpoint, I always make time to photograph a reception space before the guests enter whenever possible. Once dinner and dancing begin, the room changes completely. These photographs preserve all of the planning, floral design, lighting, and details exactly as the couple first experienced them.

A Wedding Reception Full of Energy
Once the dancing started, the energy inside the tent completely changed. Katie and Jack had a crowd that came ready to celebrate, and the dance floor was filled with great expressions, laughter, and spontaneous moments.
When the party gets going, I like to be right in the middle of the action, not photographing from the edge of the dance floor with a long lens. Using a super-wide-angle lens lets me get close, interact with the guests, and capture spontaneous expressions and energy that simply wouldn’t feel the same from ten feet away.

Reception photography is where I shift heavily toward candid storytelling. Rather than constantly stopping people and asking them to pose, I move through the party looking for the interactions and expressions that are already happening. Those photographs often become some of the most memorable images from the entire wedding.

More Than Just Beautiful Wedding Photography
Beautiful portraits are only part of what I bring to a wedding day. As a Boca Raton wedding photographer, I’m constantly looking for opportunities, anticipating moments, and helping make things happen when needed. My goal is to create beautiful wedding photography while also keeping the day moving smoothly and giving my couples an incredible collection of candid moments.
When the reception starts, my approach becomes even more energetic. I don’t stand at the edge of the dance floor shooting everything with a long lens. I get right into the party with the guests, often using a super-wide-angle lens that puts me just a few feet—or sometimes inches—from the action. I interact with people, make them comfortable, and become part of the energy without becoming a distraction.
That’s how I capture the wild expressions, laughter, dancing, and spontaneous moments you see in these photographs. For me, The Boca Raton wedding photography isn’t just about documenting what happened. It’s about connecting with people and creating energetic photographs that make you feel what the party was actually like.
What started as a traditional mother-son dance quickly turned into something much more energetic.
From a Mother-Son Dance to a Dance-Off
Jack’s dance with his mother started traditionally enough, with a sweet mother-son dance together. But it didn’t stay that way for long. Before you knew it, the slow dance turned into an energetic dance-off, giving me another opportunity to capture the spontaneous moments that make wedding photography at The Boca Raton so much fun.
I want couples looking through their wedding photographs years later to remember not only what their wedding looked like, but what it felt like to be there.

When the Reception Turns Into a Party
Luxury wedding photography at The Boca Raton isn’t only about beautiful portraits, incredible décor, and carefully composed photographs. Once the reception gets going, my approach changes with the energy in the room. I’m constantly moving through the crowd, getting close to the guests, interacting with them, and looking for the expressions and unexpected moments that make a great party come alive in photographs.

A Perfect Ending Under the Full Moon
The full moon over the Beach Club created the perfect ending to an incredible wedding day. I enhanced the moon to create a more dramatic interpretation of the scene, while the black-and-white treatment gives the photograph a timeless quality. After a day filled with portraits, emotional moments and an unforgettable reception, this became one of my favorite images from Katie and Jack’s luxury wedding photography at The Boca Raton.
As the celebration continued, The Boca Raton opened a second ballroom, giving guests even more room to keep the party going.

The details on Katie and Jack’s wedding cake were incredible. Layers of white roses and soft green hydrangeas covered the cake, while the crystal-accented base added an elegant finishing touch. Photographing details like these is an important part of luxury wedding photography at The Boca Raton, because so much thought goes into every element of the wedding design. These close-up photographs preserve the details that can easily be overlooked once the celebration gets underway.

After the cake cutting, guests were treated to beautifully plated slices of wedding cake. Luxury wedding photography at The Boca Raton means documenting the entire celebration—from the grandest moments to details like the dessert presentation that complete the story of the wedding day.
After all the dancing, toasts and celebration, it was time for something sweet. The wedding cake was beautifully plated and served to guests, adding one more delicious detail to an incredible evening. Luxury wedding photography at The Boca Raton is about telling the complete story of the day—including the food, décor and thoughtful details that the couple selected for their guests to enjoy.
One of my favorite perspectives from the evening. Sitting together at their head table, Katie and her groom had a quiet moment to take in the reception—the glowing candles, flowers, string lights and all of the people who had come to celebrate with them. Moments like this are an important part of luxury wedding photography at The Boca Raton because they help tell the complete story of the wedding, not just the moments happening on the dance floor.

From getting ready and family portraits to the waterfront ceremony, incredible tented reception and packed dance floor, this wedding had everything I love to photograph. My approach to luxury wedding photography at The Boca Raton is about much more than creating beautiful portraits. It’s about anticipating moments, keeping the day moving when needed, connecting with the people in front of my camera and capturing the energy of the celebration from beginning to end.
Every wedding is different, and my goal is to give each couple a collection of photographs that shows not only what their wedding looked like, but what it actually felt like to be there.
